Policy Specialist
The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) is
a statewide advocacy organization committed to the goal of providing
services to women who are abused and their children and eradicating
domestic abuse and promoting broad social change through advocacy,
education, public awareness and program development.
Primary Responsibility:
The Policy Specialist shares responsibility for the implementation of
NYSCADV's public policy strategy.
Duties:
The Systems and Policy Specialist will:
Share responsibility
with the NYSCADV Policy Team for the development of NYSCADV's policy agenda
and its implementation, through research and evaluation, materials
development, and lobbying, and assisting with the planning, implementation
and follow up of all special NYSCADV policy meetings, trainings, work groups,
roundtables, etc.;
Coordinate internal
policy and legislative materials and processes, including creating and
updating policy and legislative material for the NYSCADV website, writing
policy and legislative articles and updates for NYSCADV publications; and
supervise policy and legislative interns and volunteers;
Present at local,
state and national conferences on topics pertaining to policy and legislative
affairs, and develop curriculum and training and educational materials to
enhance member program policy and legislative advocacy response;
Liaise with domestic
violence programs, county and state agencies, and national organizations
regarding public policy and legislative affairs; and attend regular and
ad hoc policy meetings with members and systems;
Provide technical
assistance to local, state, and national representatives, state agencies,
domestic violence programs and organizations, and other relevant
stakeholders;
Research and develop
position papers, policy documents and resource/educational materials;
Assist with existing
NYSCADV projects and programs;
Travel necessary,
reliable transportation required.
Qualifications:
NYSCADV seeks a highly organized and experienced professional who has
experience in a domestic violence and/or sexual assault services program,
or working on related policy issues is strongly recommended, but prior
experience with Women's Movement and/or feminist issues will be considered.
The position requires strong public speaking, written and oral communication
skills, computer and database skills, as well as detail oriented and
organized, demonstrated team-building and problem-solving expertise.
The position requires a commitment to: NYSCADV's Mission Statement and
Principles of Practice; and social justice, anti-oppression and non-violence.
