NYSCADV in partnership with Unity House is pleased to present the training, "Best Practices for Supporting Coaches in Effective Healthy Relationship Programming" in Troy, NY.

As part of an ongoing statewide effort, NYSCADV will be convening training and discussions on best practices for engaging coaches and athletic directors to implement programming that addresses healthy and unhealthy behaviors of their athletes both on and off the field.

Athletic coaches play an influential role in the lives of their teams and are in a unique position to positively influence how their young athletes think and act with regard to healthy relationship behaviors. This training will present information in a train-the-trainer format and promotes programs such as Coaching Boys into Men and Athletes as Leaders (designed for female athletes) that promote respect, consent and behaviors and attitudes associated with building healthy relationships as well addressing unhealthy and dangerous dating behaviors such as coercion, control and the use of physical force.

Information shared during this day long training include the latest research on dating violence in middle school, high schools and campuses, as well as resources that support coaches to promote respectful behavior among their players and help prevent relationship abuse, harassment, and sexual assault. Resources like Coaching Boys into Men and Athletes as Leaders help coaches to incorporate themes associated with teamwork, integrity, fair play, and respect into their daily practice and routines.

Together we will explore strategies that:
