Únase a NYSCADV y Brighter Tomorrows para el seminario web “Latinas Adelante: Una descripción general de cómo avanzar a través del plan de estudios de gestión financiera para sobrevivientes que hablan espanol Seminario web.” El abuso económico es una forma prevalente de violencia doméstica. De hecho, según algunas estimaciones, el 99% de los sobrevivientes se ven afectados por algún tipo de abuso económico. A corto plazo, el abuso económico puede obstaculizar la capacidad de los sobrevivientes para escapar de una relación abusiva. A corto plazo, el abuso económico puede llevar consecuencias devastadoras, incluyendo créditos arruinados, problemas de empleo, falta de vivienda y cuestiones legales. Estas consecuencias afectan negativamente la capacidad de los sobrevivientes para lograr la estabilidad financiera y la seguridad después de dejar a sus abusadores. Los inmigrantes y los sobrevivientes que hablan espanol se enfrentan a barreras adicionales al tratar de lograr la independencia financiera. Este seminario web será presentado por Brighter Tomorrows, Inc. Mariah Prensa, Directora de Defensa y Sherly Vera Defensora Bilingue, han presentado el taller Latinas Moving Ahead en español a más de 70 sobrevivientes en toda Long Island. A través de estos talleres presenciales han podido adaptar el plan de estudios de Moving Ahead a la comunidad a la que sirven.

Latinas Moving Ahead: An Overview of Moving Ahead through Financial Management Curriculum for Spanish Speaking Survivors Webinar
Economic abuse is a prevalent form of domestic violence. Indeed, by some estimates, 99% of survivors are impacted by some form of economic abuse. In the short-term, economic abuse can hinder survivors’ ability to escape an abusive relationship. In the long-term, economic abuse can carry devastating consequences, including ruined credits, employment issues, homelessness, and legal issues. These consequences adversely affect survivors’ ability to achieve financial stability and security after leaving their abusers. Immigrant and Spanish speaking survivors face additional barriers when trying to achieving financial independence. Brighter Tomorrows, Inc developed this webinar in partnership with The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) based on the “Moving Ahead Through Financial Management” curriculum, first created by the Allstate Foundation and NNEDV. Portions of the webinar will be presented in Spanish in order to replicate how the content is presented to Spanish speaking survivors. Topics covered during this webinar include: signs of economic abuse, safety planning with immigrant survivors of economic abuse, fundamentals of financial planning and budgeting, factors that affect credit, and savings strategies. Advocates who attend this webinar will come away with an increased understanding of trauma-informed, survivor-centered, culturally competent services to survivors of economic abuse.
Who benefits from the workshop:
This webinar will benefit bilingual service providers directly and, by extension, the victims they serve. Providers will come away with valuable tools necessary to provide financial safety planning with survivors of domestic violence in Spanish. They will also be introduced to the Moving Ahead curriculum and its modules and how to assist survivors in their path to financial empowerment.

Mariah Prensa the Director of Advocacy and Sherly Vera a Bilingual Court Advocate have presented the Latinas Moving Ahead workshop in Spanish to over 70 survivors throughout Long Island. Through these in-person workshops they have been able to tailor the Moving Ahead curriculum to the community they serve.
