NYSCASA: The Impact and Legacy of INCITE! A 20-Year Retrospective

Friday, April 30, 2021
1:30 pm2:30 pm

Attendees will learn about the impact and legacies of INCITE! Women, Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color Against Violence (formerly INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence) on the movement to end sexual violence since their foundational conference, “The Color of Violence: Violence Against Women of Color,” convened in 2000, and the publication of INCITE’s joint statement with Critical Resistance on gender-based violence and the prison-industrial complex. The audience will learn more about the complex history of efforts to end sexual violence, including the “carceral creep,” or increasing reliance on the criminal legal system to prevent and respond to violence, and community-centered efforts to prevent and respond to violence outside of the criminal legal system.
