NYSCADV’s 2022 Legislative Summary and End of Session Webinar

The Legislature approved several important pieces of legislation earlier this year, which are summarized in the attached document. The summary is organized by those that have already been signed into law, bills approved by both chambers and awaiting action by the Governor, or bills approved in either the Assembly or the Senate. The legislation is ordered within these categories by chapter number or bill number.

Several important bills have either been signed into law, or are awaiting approval by the Governor, including:

A new law to strengthen and expand protections for DV survivors under the Human Rights Law – Chapter 202
A new law to create a one-year lookback window for survivors of sexual assault that occurred when they were adults – Chapter 203
A new law creating a Transgender and Gender Non-Binary Wellness and Equity Program – Chapter 232
A new law expanding the number of judges in Family Court – Chapter 365 Several new firearms laws, including one to modify New York’s concealed carry weapons law – Chapter 371
A bill to require DV/child abuse training for forensic child custody evaluators serving in Family Court; the training to be developed by NYSCADV (A2375C/S6385B)
Several bills requiring the posting of information about human trafficking in public spaces, such as adult entertainment venues, gas stations, rest stops and airports
The Equality Amendment, a proposed Constitutional amendment providing that no person shall be denied equal protection under the law due to their sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive health and autonomy (A41002/S41002)
