NYSCADV Day of Action
Join us for NYSCADV’S 2024 Legislative Day of Action on Tuesday, May 14th in Albany when we will be elevating the needs of DV survivors to our State Senate and Assembly!
The day will begin at 10:00am with a morning program to get everyone energized and thinking ADVOCACY, followed by a rally and march through the capitol. From 12:30-4:00pm, advocates will have an opportunity to meet with NYS legislators. Similar to Budget Advocacy Day, NYSCADV will be scheduling legislative meetings for all participants.
To help you prepare for the day, we are offering a prep webinar on May 7th at 1:00pm, where you will learn about our legislative priorities, how to prepare for your legislative meetings, and logistics about the day. The webinar will be recorded for those who cannot attend when initially offered.
In addition, as a benefit of NYSCADV membership, we will again be hosting a virtual training with Malkin & Ross, NYSCADV’s lobbying team, on the Power of Advocacy for staff of DV member programs. This training, which got rave reviews from those who attended earlier this year, is scheduled for May 1 and May 2, from 10:30am-noon and 12:30-2:00pm on each day. The training includes workshops on campaign planning, storytelling, creating a narrative, and speaking truth to power – all perfect for those interested in ramping up their advocacy skills. This training is limited to staff of NYSCADV member programs.
Can’t make it to Albany but still want to participate? We will be creating a toolkit with sample emails, social media messaging and graphics, phones scripts, and talking points. Please note that event registration is not needed if you intend to advocate from your community, office, or home.
Everyone is welcome to participate! We highly encourage survivors, DV program staff, sexual assault program staff, crime victim program staff, legal services staff, coalition and community partners, and community members to attend.
Hope to see you, either in person or virtually, on May 14th!
Together we will stand up for survivors and advocates!
