The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) is a not-for-profit membership organization. A recognized leader for over 40 years, NYSCADV works to ensure the provision of effective and appropriate services to survivors through community outreach, training, technical assistance, and policy development. The collective voices of survivors and advocates as expressed through NYSCADV strengthens public and private response and prioritizes domestic violence as a human rights issue.
Since its inception in 1978 in Woodstock, NY, NYSCADV has been a driving force in the development of hundreds of programs throughout New York State that provide services for individuals affected by domestic violence and their children. As the only statewide domestic violence coalition in New York, members include residential and non-residential programs from across the state, allied organizations that serve individuals who are or have been abused, and concerned individuals who share NYSCADV’s goal of ending domestic violence.
Recognizing the need for a centralized crisis response, in 1981 NYSCADV started the statewide domestic violence hotline. Subsequently, in 1985, NYSCADV started the first statewide Spanish speaking domestic violence hotline. Both hotlines are now operated by Unity House in Troy, NY.
Because New York State’s 19 million residents live such geographically varied areas including large urban areas, suburban communities, and rural counties, NYSCADV has developed an expertise in providing crucial services for a very unique and diverse population.
